Position Title: Financial Director

Reports To: Executive Director

This is a responsible position expected to provide administrative/management functions for The Wellness Coalition. The expectations include planning and program development, grant writing, resource development, staff training, and assistance, developing policies and procedures, budget preparation and monitoring, performance improvement/monitoring program activities to ensure the coalition’s programs meet grant and other requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Incorporate and comply with the TWC’s Management Procedures Manual as it pertains to daily functions and activities;
  • Prepare and revise the overall agency budget in collaboration with the Executive Director; present budget to Finance Committee for approval;
  • Prepare and revise grant specific budgets and budget narratives in a timely manner in collaboration with Executive Director and grant writer; incorporate into revised agency budget; submit revised budgets to appropriate funders;
  • Oversee the agency’s banking activities and direct the cash management functions to ensure there is adequate cash available for funding of operations;
  • Use initiative and independent judgment within approved financial procedures to guide financial decisions and recommendations;
  • Responsible for agency compliance with local, state and federal guidelines related to financial management of each grant including but not limited to budget versus actual analysis, monthly request for reimbursement, percent of funds expended to ensure available funds are used efficiently and effectively, an appropriately tailored accounting system to track revenues and expenses by funding source, and preparation and submission of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports;
  • Receive and control invoices from vendors; obtain approval from appropriate person authorizing payment; code invoices for payment according to funding source;
  • Ensure bills are paid and receipts are deposited in a timely fashion;
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements for accuracy;
  • Coordinate the annual audit; ensure accounting records and reports follow generally accepted accounting principles and governmental regulations; prepare documents requested by the auditor; serve as the liaison between the agency and external auditors;
  • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of reports, records and other documentation; * Examine supporting documentation to establish proper authorization and conformance with contracts and other agreements, policies and appropriate regulations;
  • Prepare and/or review all applicable monthly, quarterly and annual payroll filings; * Review Federal Forms 990 for accuracy;
  • Attend trainings necessary to stay informed of changes in regulations affecting the audit and financial/grant management;
  • Represent the Wellness Coalition on community task forces and work groups, in meetings, and other community functions;
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The individual should know general accounting principles, knowledge of local state, federal legislation affecting non-profits, the ability to handle multiple tasks, and met deadlines. Must have strong computer skills in current Microsoft applications to include Word, Excel, and PPT. This individual must have proficient written and oral communication with the demonstrated ability to write for a specialized audience and learn and adapt to changes in technology affecting financial management systems. Prefers supervisory and grants management experience and must be able to perform in a high-stress environment. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Accounting or Finance.
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred.
  • Five years of experience in non-profit accounting preferred, or ten years accounting experience.

Job type: Full-time

Salary: $40,000.00 – $60,000.00 per year
